Duration of the event: 30 minutes.Join for a 10-15min walk and talk through the wafting grasses, discuss the practicalities of re-establishing a lowland meadow and make your very own hay bale!
We are changing the way we care for some of our grasslands, by leaving more grass to grow longer and cutting a hay crop, encouraging our wildflowers to flourish.
The paddock is our largest area of grassland and covers the northern side of the Cathedral where our focus is on a careful regime of mowing to nurture the wildflowers and discourage dominant grasses.
We’ll guide you through the power of plant parasites and the care and curation of plant editing, showing how seasonal tasks are the beating heart of a meadow and the regular pulse by which it thrives.
Booking is not essential but is recommended if you’d like to guarantee your space on the day.
Bales of hay will be available to purchase from the cathedral grounds for £5 each, on the day of this event.
