About this Event
Designing Human-AI Experience (HAX) is a hands-on workshop co-hosted by (Porto’s UX community) and (the Portuguese chapter of the global User Experience Professionals Association). We’re bringing UX and product professionals together to learn, connect, and strengthen the Porto UX ecosystem—while exploring how AI, Tech, and UX intersect to build successful AI products and services made in Porto.
What this workshop is about
AI is changing digital experiences fast—but adoption only succeeds when AI is designed around people. This session gives UX designers, product managers, and tech professionals practical strategies to create AI experiences that are useful, trustworthy, engaging, and ethical.
You’ll learn how to apply Human-AI Experience (HAX) design patterns, focusing on:
- Explainability (help users understand “why” and “how”)
- Feedback mechanisms (how users can guide or correct AI)
- Error handling (graceful recovery when AI fails)
- Building trust (transparency, reliability, and user confidence)
We’ll pair these patterns with the AX Framework (Applied AI Experience Framework), a structured way for teams to reason about:
- Decision boundaries and when to automate vs. keep humans in control
- Responsibility & accountability for AI behavior
- Trust and alignment with real user needs beyond the interface
Through real-world examples and hands-on group exercises, you’ll practice translating user needs into data/decision strategies, addressing bias, defining limits of automation, and thinking about how to evaluate AI behavior over time.
Format
- Short talks in a conference-style setup
- Then collaborative table work in 4–5 small groups (about 4–5 people per group) for practical activities and discussion
What you’ll leave with
- A clear understanding of how to combine HAX interaction design patterns with the AX Framework
- A practical toolkit for designing AI-driven products that are transparent, accountable, and aligned with user mental models
- New connections within Porto’s UX and product community
What you need to bring / requirements
- Bring your own laptop
- Wi-Fi is required
Ticket responsibility (please read)
To keep things fair for the community and help us plan the workshop logistics, please only get a ticket if you’re confident you can attend.
If something changes and you can’t make it, don’t let the ticket go to waste—you’re welcome to pass it on to someone else (a friend, colleague, ...) who can join in your place.
If you’d rather return your ticket so it can be released to someone else, please contact us at [email protected] as soon as possible.

Agenda
🕑: 09:00 AM
Module 1: The AI Experience Regression
Info: Start with a "Confessional Audit." Using the 7 Deadly Sins framework, shift from analyzing "digital facades" (UI) to auditing system behavior. Apply the AX Human Layers lens to unpack intent, decisions, and trust assumptions.
🕑: 10:30 AM
Coffee Break
Info: Morning refreshments and networking.
🕑: 10:45 AM
Module 2: The Antidotes — Core HAX Principles
Info: Explore the balance between Automation and Augmentation. Design for Explainability and Trust using indicators over data. Apply the AX Autonomy & Control Check to "Gold Standard" products to assess user control and fallback limits.
🕑: 12:30 PM
Lunch Break
Info: Sponsored networking lunch at a nearby restaurant.
🕑: 01:30 PM
Module 3: Strategy & Framing (The Tri-Canvas)
Info: Hands-on group work with the AX Sprint Canvas. Align People, Machines, and Intelligence to solve real problems. Shift to use-case validation and data strategy, using the 7 AX Pillars as guardrails for ethical, functional decisions.
🕑: 03:30 PM
Afternoon Break
Info: Quick refreshments before the final sprint.
🕑: 03:45 PM
Module 4: Rapid Prototyping (The "Devigner" Phase)
Info: Build a functional prototype with the AI's behavior as the product. Using tools like Figma AI, V0, or Lovable, focus on "Unhappy Paths"—graceful failures, uncertainty signaling, and preserving human agency.
🕑: 05:00 PM
Final Pitch & Wrap-up
Info: Present your solution's "underwater logic." Rather than just showing screens, teams will pitch their data sources, bias mitigation plans, and the key AX Metrics they would monitor post-launch.
