Find your inner musical character and bring a bit of colour to the streets of Belfast!
About this Event

This is one of the festival's Pay What You Can events.

A chance to enjoy bringing a bit of colour to the streets of Belfast & into our lives by imagining that life really is a musical - just for a day!

Join singer & musical-lover Ali Warner in her experimental social artists’ voice lab where we will find our inner musical characters, explore their songs supported by in-the-moment self-created voice & rhythm backings and then head out to share our voices together.

An exploratory workshop using voice and simple movements in a natural way.

All welcome to join this journey of discovery for an experience that should be enriching for ourselves and hopefully offer some sparks of colourful creativity back to our wider community as well.

Often a lot of what is good & creative & special inside of each of us doesn’t get a chance to be seen or heard amidst the speed and structure of our everyday societal lives. But this means that much of the richness we need for our communities to flourish isn’t being expressed and a lot of our potential as individuals is being pushed down & left unused.

You know how in musicals, people are so expressive that they frequently just burst into song? And that things seem so vivid in the musical world with its colours and symbols and characters? What if we could experiment with life actually being that way - or at least begin to give it a try?

This experimental social artists’ voice lab will offer a chance for you to find your own inner musical character in the workshop studio, to begin to explore the essence of what they have to sing supported by simple in-the-moment vocal or rhythmic backings that we all create, and finally to venture out into a few special quiet corners of the city centre together to bring them to life through song!

Expect a creative exploratory workshop that involves using our voices and basic movements in a natural way - allowing us to meet different parts of ourselves, to enjoy connecting to others and to collectively create something playful and celebratory in the process. All welcome and no musical experience necessary.

Ali Warner (website) is a systemic art voice practitioner & singer who tends to her own inner cast of musical characters as often as she can - giving them space to express without hopefully too many tears or anyone stealing the show! A work in progress. She is also a facilitator of community process, a collective performer with Bbeyond, and a believer in the power of music, art & song to contribute to what is most needed in these times for our world.
