Join us at Church Bay on the Tutukaka Coast to learn about the awesome ocean mahi of Glenn Edney and his team. We will spend the first half of our session undertaking a Hauora Moana style snorkel survey of the kelplings planted in Church Bay. Learn about seaweed life cycles and the threats they face. Broaden your understanding of our marine ecosystems and discover what species are meant to be here, and what species aren’t.Following our snorkel, we will have a consensus discussion about mauri and ecosystem health, followed by an exclusive opportunity to view the on-site lab. All gear provided. No prior survey experience required, but strong snorkelling ability is.
This event is funded by Lotteries and SkyCity, in collaboration with the Northland Regional Council, and is targeted specifically at rangatahi under the age of 34, but all are welcome. This event is a part of our Marine Mahi for Rangatahi pathway. Through this pathway we are looking to identify rangatahi to participate in further exciting marine experiences and one rangatahi (taitamariki) into a work experience and potential SCUBA training through our partnership with Dive! Tutukaka.
