Celebrating Indigenous culture with Haudenosaunee boiled cornbreadNative people from the six nations that make up the Haudenosaunee Confederacy have been growing, processing, and cooking Haudenosaunee White Corn, or flour corn, for hundreds of years. Join us in celebration of Indigenous People's Day to learn about these processes and culinary applications from the owner of Tomahawks Indigenous Taco and Cornbread Shop .
This program will be a literal hands-on class showcasing the making, cooking, and eating of traditional Haudenosaunee boiled cornbread—a round, boiled bread that is dense and moist, and made with nixtamalized corn. This will also provide a foundation for conversation on Haudenosaunee culture in general, food sovereignty, and what it means to decolonize our diets.
All proceeds from ticket sales go towards supporting the Culinary Literacy's Center programs for youth, neighborhood engagement, and English language learning. Free tickets are available for SNAP eligible families and for anyone who cannot afford the fee right now but would still like to participate. Please email [email protected] for more information.
Please notify us of any dietary restrictions in advance by emailing [email protected].
Tomahawks is an Indigenous Taco and Cornbread shop dedicated to exploring and rediscovering the flavors, ingredients and cooking techniques being practiced by the Haudenosaunee.
