In celebration of America’s 250th birthday, the Heritage Association of San Marcos (HASM) invites the community to gather for a spirited day of history, patriotism, and small-town charm at the Annual Home Tour, Heritage & Home: Americana Experience, on Saturday, May 2, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.This year’s tour embraces the heart of Americana—historic homes, front-porch hospitality, live bluegrass music, classic summer fare, and neighbors coming together in celebration of the nation’s enduring ideals. As communities across the country mark the semi quincentennial, San Marcos will honor America’s legacy by highlighting the architecture, craftsmanship, and civic pride that reflect our shared heritage.
Guests will check in at 1132 Belvin Street, where they will be welcomed with a signature cocktail complimentary of Palmer’s Restaurant. The tour features six historic stops that showcase the distinctive character and timeless beauty of San Marcos’ treasured properties. At one of the featured homes, attendees will pause for a celebratory champagne toast in honor of the nation’s milestone birthday—raising a glass to 250 years of resilience, independence, and community.
Lunch will be held at Moore Manor, where guests are encouraged to bring a quilt or lawn chair and enjoy a relaxed picnic-style gathering reminiscent of traditional American hometown festivities. The Spoke Hollow String Band will perform from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM, providing a lively bluegrass musical backdrop during the heart of the midday celebration. Boy Scout Troop 18 will host and serve a complimentary lunch of hot dogs and classic accompaniments, and The Damron Group Realtors will offer refreshing complimentary lemonade, completing the all-American spread.
A special highlight of the day will be the live auction of eight custom picnic tables—true symbols of collaboration and community pride. Materials were generously provided by McCoy’s Building Supply, the tables were constructed by the San Marcos High School Wood Shop, and each was uniquely painted by one of eight local artists: Bubba Ward, Darin Wood, Jamie Bernard, Thom Rogers, Yellow Dog Studios, the SMHS Art Department, Josh Garza, and Donna Gamble. Local auctioneer Renee Sample will lead the auction, with proceeds supporting ongoing preservation efforts.
Tickets are $30 in advance at www.HeritageSanMarcos.org ($35 the day of the tour). Proceeds benefit the mission to preserve the historic structures and districts that make San Marcos one of Texas’ most treasured cities.
