We want to make it easier for our communities to have access to free, locally grown fruit. You can help us, by joining a Harvest Helpers Pruning Day. Come along to the working bee to learn how to care for fruit trees; when and how to prune and then practice your technique.
Together, we’ll work on the fruit trees at the Western Community Centre and/or Pukete Neighbourhood House, keeping them healthy for next season.
By keeping trees healthy and productive, we can ensure an abundant supply of free fruit for everyone to enjoy. Taking your newly acquired skills home, we hope you can then share your abundance and excess harvest with our communities. (Details for our “Community abundance collection service” below).

Local food growing is a vital climate action that fosters food-secure communities. "Food security exists when all people at all times have physical and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life."
We collaborate with community centers to maintain and care for their fruit trees, offering community-based training and connection opportunities.
🍎Our kai workshops are led by Michael Heiler, our resident gardener and arborist, who integrates permaculture principles to enhance the relationship between food growing and the environment.
💛We have a “Swappa Crate” system - where we drop off a crate for you to fill with fresh produce from your garden (Hamilton city only). We’ll collect it and deliver it directly to community centre based Free Stores for you. If you have excess produce please email [email protected]
