Now or Never: Redesigning Power, Rebuilding Justice
About this Event

Led by the Harvard Black Law Students Association, the HBLSA Spring Conference serves as a central forum for examining how law, institutions, and power interact at moments of structural change. As our flagship convening, the Conference brings together students, alumni, and leaders across law, business, government, and civic life, continuing a long tradition of critical engagement at Harvard Law School.

We gather at a time of visible strain across sectors. Institutions face significant challenges of legitimacy and trust. Inequality remains deeply entrenched. The rules and structures that organize economic opportunity, governance, and justice are being contested in real time.

Moments such as this do more than expose what is fragile. They clarify what is contingent, what is constructed, and what remains open to redesign.

The defining question, then, is not only what is broken. It is what we choose to build next.

This year’s theme, Now or Never: Redesigning Power, Rebuilding Justice, reflects the urgency of this inquiry. It recognizes that systems are neither fixed nor inevitable, and that legal actors play a central role in shaping how authority, opportunity, and rights are distributed.

Across two days, the Conference moves from analysis to imagination. Participants will examine how existing structures were built and explore how they might be rebuilt in ways that are more equitable, more deliberate, and more sustainable.
Speakers include Loretta Lynch, Deval Patrick, Benjamin Crump, Alvin Bragg, and additional speakers to be announced.
All conference tickets include preferred access to the official after party, Motion on the Floor, hosted by After Hours, a Black-owned event company led by HBS students, at Studio B.

Conference attendees will receive a code providing 50% off after party tickets.
