This contact improvisation workshop will delve deep into technical skills for supporting and flying. Various situations and ideas will be proposed to encourage the integration of these principles into our improvising in duets and group constellations.
Each day will start with somatic internal work to gently tune the attention into inner landscape of the body. This will lead us into solo movement explorations as a preparation for meeting other bodies in space. In partnerships, we will then work on listening through touch and explore nuances of pressure, tone, and weight. This process of tuning in will enhance our physical communication, resulting in a clearer understanding of the intentions, directions, and energy of the other bodies encountered in the space.
Technical skills and specific supporting and flying techniques will be taught in detail, and time will be given each day to playing with inversions and exit options in preparation for more acrobatic possibilities. Supported by improvisational scores (loose ideas or instructions) we will then practice freeing ourselves from some of the confines of learned technique and existing patterns, into relational dancing that is more personal, responsive, and exciting.

LEWIS WILKINS
Lewis has worked as a performer and artistic collaborator with various choreographers and companies. These include Jean Abreu, Richard Alston, Bregenzer Festspiele, Tom Dale, Stephanie Dufresne, The National Theatre, Matthew Bourne's New Adventures, Joel O'Donoghue, The Royal Opera House, Scottish Dance Theatre, Lea Tirabasso and TrashDollys. Lewis has been teaching since 2014, and specialises in ensemble improvisation, contact improvisation, floorwork, and microbatics. His teaching credits include Agitart Figueres Es Mou, DV8 Physical Theatre, National Dance Company Wales and Scottish Dance Theatre. He regularly teaches at B12 Berlin, London Contemporary Dance School, and Nuova Officina della Danza. Additionally, Lewis has been a returning teacher on degree programmes at London Studio Centre, Middlesex University, Rambert School, and University of Limerick. As a teacher Lewis is committed to a progressive pedagogy that is learner centred. He always aims to create an inclusive, supportive, and focussed learning environment where creativity and playfulness can thrive.
