TTGirlz Digital History Story Time Series Presents: "Harlem: The Lafayette Theater" - A Special Christmas-in-Harlem Time Travel Adventure for Young Readers.
New York, NY – November 1, 2024– Step into a magical holiday season with the Harlem Renaissance Time Travel Girlz (TTGirlz) as we unveil a festive edition of “Harlem: The Lafayette Theater.” This December, we're thrilled to invite families to experience the iconic sounds, stories, and history of Harlem’s golden era through an interactive journey perfect for kids aged 3-9.
Lafayette Legends: TTGirlz Uncover Harlem's Hidden Melodies is a 60-minute digital story time adventure, complete with the soulful sounds of Harlem's Jazz Diva LeeOlive Tucker, who will serenade young audiences with classics from Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughan. The experience includes a first-ever chance for kids to scat alongside Harlem’s Jazz Radio Personality Lamon Fenner in an interactive, jazz-infused story hour that promises to light up the holiday spirit.
Sponsored by the LMCC Creative Engagement Grant, this series will run on four weekends throughout December 2024 at WHCR 90.3 FM’s Event Space at City College of New York. Under the creative direction of award-winning author Antonia Badon, each session will whisk children and parents into the rich world of Harlem's arts and culture, with a chance to uncover landmarks like the Lafayette Theater and hear stories of the legendary figures who shaped Harlem’s vibrant past.
Adding to the magic, every young attendee will receive a book from the TTGirlz series as a keepsake from this unforgettable holiday adventure. “Harlem: The Lafayette Theater” is the second installment in Antonia’s TTGirlz series, an innovative storytelling project that has captivated Harlem audiences and aims to inspire the next generation of cultural enthusiasts.
Antonia’s vision for TTGirlz is rooted in community and creativity. Her dream is to see every child in Harlem with a TTGirlz book and to bring these incredible stories to life as an animated series on PBS Kids.
