Hans Christian Andersen in England
This event will feature a talk by , the Director of the Hans Christian Andersen Research Centre in Denmark, on the English translations of Andersen’s tales that made him a global celebrity author and one of the most widely translated in history. The novelist, poet, translator and critic, (author of ),will contribute an appreciation of Andersen as a novelist. The event will also celebrate that it is 70 years ago that Elias Bredsdorff (1912-2002), a former lecturer in Danish at UCL, published his book, Hans Christian Andersen and England. Honorary Associate Professor in Danish Literature, will reflect on Andersen research in the UK and the peculiarities of Andersen’s language. The event will be followed by a reception.
