Rue Pigalle a travel and events-based community for women patrons of craft invites female-identifying craft patrons to join us for a day of discovery as we venture through Quebec city the grande dame of La Belle Province where craft is woven into the very fabric of its streets walls and ateliers. Here centuries-old techniques and contemporary interpretations of traditional crafts blend together. This immersive itinerary is designed for those impassioned by Canadian craftsmanship heritage and the powerful role of women in craft.
In conversation with a haute lisse weaver we’ll explore how over the centuries tapestries have brought communities’ stories to life– and how they find their place in modern homes. Fine craft often turns up in the most unexpected of places including monastic halls. As well as craft in our homes we’ll explore objects worn on our bodies – to adorn intrigue and invite dialogue. One of Canada’s most eminent contemporary jewellers will share her knowledge with us about the innovative use of materials that fall outside the cannons of jewelry.
And of course for craft to endure it needs a home – a place where knowledge meets know-how where tradition and contemporary vision collide and evolve. We’ll visit a significant educational and cultural hub dedicated to ensuring that fine craft remains not just a relic of the past but a living breathing force of the present.
Midday we’ll pause for a light lunch at a local restaurant before continuing our journey through this rich cultural exploration of craft. Lunch is included in the price.
