🧵 Hand Sewing Techniques & Vintage Button Sewing

Thursday, May 7 | 6:00–9:00 PM

📍 FASHION ZONE @ TMU, 44 Gerrard St E Room 312, Toronto, ON M5B 1W7

Learn to repair clothing with professional hand-sewing techniques or give your clothes a fresh twist with just the right vintage buttons. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn a variety of professional hand-sewing techniques including how to sew two types of buttons (flat and shank). We'll go over proper techniques, tools, thread matching, placement, and how to reinforce hand-sewing and buttons so they last.

You'll get plenty of time to practice by trying several techniques, sewing multiple buttons, and we’ll troubleshoot common issues like loose threads, poor alignment, or mismatched sizing. Walk away confident in refreshing and mending your wardrobe with simple, impactful touches.

What to Bring:
  • Your own clothing that needs new buttons
  • Optional - your own buttons (we'll have a beautiful selection of vintage buttons and fabric to practice with)
  • A notebook + pencil

What We Provide:
  • A wide variety of vintage buttons, thread, and fabric swatches
  • Hand-sewing tools
  • Hands-on instruction and button sewing demos

This is a great workshop if you're new to sewing or looking to add flair and longevity to your wardrobe without using a sewing machine.
