About this Event
Description:
Learn the art of hand sewing with Lauren from Asbury Alterations. Sewing by hand is the foundation of mending, altering, and creating clothing like a professional. In this workshop you will be introduced to the tools of the trade as well as to the 5 most commonly used hand stitches (the running/basting stitch, the back stitch, the whip/hem stitch, the slip/tunnel/invisible stitch, and the catch stitch). You will come away with hands-on experience and the knowledge you need to become an excellent sewist. All supplies will be provided. No experience is necessary.
About the Instructor:
Lauren (she/they) is the owner of Asbury Alterations. They have a background in costume design for theatre and over 18 years of sewing experience. Lauren received their MFA in Costume Design & Technology from West Virginia University in 2017 where they completed advanced coursework in everything from creating Elizabethan style gowns to hand tailoring modern day suits from scratch. From there, she worked in professional and university theatres, in varying capacities before moving to Asbury Park in 2023.
