The second heat of this special come-back season for Hammer & Tongue Hackney! The legendary spoken word promoters return with their charateristic rowdy but friendly, lo-fi but high-quality evening of live poetry in QOH basement, Shoreditch. Featuring a top-quality guest, London's favourite poetry slam and the best DJ you'll find at a UK poetry gig.

Courtney Conrad is a Jamaican poet. Her debut pamphlet I Am Evidence is published by Bloodaxe Books. She is a winner of the Eric Gregory Award, Michael Marks Award, Bridport Prize Young Writers Award and Mslexia Women’s Pamphlet Prize. She is currently a Cave Canem fellow and an alumna of The London Library Emerging Writers Programme, Malika's Poetry Kitchen, Barbican Young Poets, Obsidian Foundation Fellow and Roundhouse Poetry Collective.
Open Mic Slam: 3.5 minutes on the mic, open to any poet of any style. No props, no music. Judged by the audience, highest scoring poet gets 10mins at the next event and a place in the end-of-season final in July. email samberkson[at]gmail.com to pre-book a place in the slam. DJ CLose Up Things: a DJ/Producer/Music Curator Known for his legendary genre-spanning open format party mixes just as much his chilled side, he seamlessly blends a variety of Global sounds with Jazz, Dub, Ragga, Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Disco, Boogie and House flavours. Whatever your poem, he's got a tune to go with it!
Sam Berkson: Founder of Hammer & Tongue in both Brighton and Hackney, he has published two full collections of poetry with Influx Press and has been doing this performance poetry thing for longer than he cares to remember
