About this Event
Presented in partnership with McMaster's Wilson College of Leadership & Civic Engagement and the Hamilton Public Library, this event will explore the role of public schools in social mobility and economic inclusion.
The event will feature a presentation from Andrew Parkin, Executive Director of Environics Institute for Survey Research where he'll share data about how public schools in Canada are doing relative to the rest of the world.
People for Education's co-Executive Director, Paris Semansky, will moderate the panel discussion with the following:
- Daunte Hillen, Chair, Indigenous Student Trustees' Council, Ontario Student Trustees’ Association
- Clint Johnston, President, Canadian Teachers' Federation
- Kristina Llewellyn, Professor, Wilson College
- Emily O'Brien, Founder, Comeback Snacks
- Rudi Wallace, President & CEO, Hamilton Community Foundation
The panel will be followed by a networking reception where light refreshments will be served.

This 8-event series will bring together regional and sector leaders, public education advocates, parents, educators, and others interested in learning more. With a distinct policy theme focus, ranging from economic resilience to social cohesion to civic trust to climate readiness, each event will highlight how public education can contribute to strengthening Canada’s resilience and prosperity, and how public schools play a key role in nation-building.
