Free Compost Giveaway for NYC residents! Get up to two (2) free bags of compost per household—made from NYC food scraps and yard waste. Each bag weighs about 20-30 pounds.

Direction by Public Transit:
- Take the 1 train to 137 St-City College
- Exit the station and walk west along 137th Street until you reach Riverside Drive
- Cross Riverside Drive, turn right, and walk north along Riverside Drive — stay on the sidewalk closest to the street (don’t enter the park yet)
- At 139th Street, go down a short flight of stairs — you’ll see our tent setup just ahead.
♿ Accessibility Notes:
- The event entrance from the sidewalk at 139th Street includes stairs; if you require a step-free route, enter the park at 138th Street, in front of the entrance to Riverside State Park and walk north past the the citibike station till you see a tent setup.
- No vehicles are allowed inside the event space.
- Bringing a cart or wheeled bag is highly encouraged to help transport your compost.
- Staff from the LES Ecology Center will be available on-site to answer questions and provide composting tips—whether you're just getting started or looking to improve your setup at home.

TYPE OF COMPOST AVAILABLE:
Compost is 1/2 inch screened compost, made at the DSNY Staten Island Compost Facility. Each bag weighs 20-30 pounds and is roughly 1/2 cubic feet of compost.
