The Freedom Park Bandshell in the Town of LaGrange will be the venue for a "Halfway to the Holidays!" show presented by The Big Band Sound 25-piece jazz orchestra to benefit the Sparrow's Nest local charity. Performances will be Saturday, May 30th at 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 31st at 6 p.m. and the suggested donation is $25 per person.
"Halfway to the Holidays!, Big Band Style" will feature The Big Band Sound 25-piece jazz orchestra, including six vocalists and swing dance performers, in a show spotlighting everyone's favorite Christmastime, wintertime, and holiday time music, all in the most exciting setting of a live big band. Why confine some of the best tunes in the Great American Songbook to being performed only during a few cold weeks of the year? Come and enjoy them outdoors in the warm and beautiful setting of Dutchess County's best bandshell and natural amphitheater!
Highlights will include Ella Fitzgerald's "Let It Snow" and "Sleigh Ride", Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)", Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You", Louis Armstrong's classics "Cool Yule" and "Zat You Santa Claus?", Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby", Lou Rawl's cool versions of "Merry Christmas Baby" and "So They Say It's Christmas Time", Andy Williams' "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year", and Glenn Miller's take on "Jingle Bells". Also included will be a jazzy version of the Hanukkah song "S'Vivon", many other favorites like "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" and "Christmas Time is Here", and a finale of Irving Berlin's "White Christmas".
Although tickets won't be required for entry, the suggested donation is $25 per person, which can be made in advance here via EventBright or can be donated in person at a performance.
Proceeds from this show will benefit the Sparrow's Nest of the Hudson Valley local charity, which provides meals to families facing a cancer diagnosis. This "Halfway to the Holidays!" show is the thirteenth in a series of “Big Band Style” shows that have been presented. Over the past nine shows, more than seventy-five thousand dollars has been raised for Sparrow's Nest. More information can be found at sparrowsnestcharity.org. In 2020, The Big Band Sound was recognized by the Dutchess County Executive's Arts Awards with their Special Citation.
Freedom Park is located at 212 Skidmore Road in LaGrangeville and accessible parking and entry is available. Bring folding chairs, blankets, and picnic items, but please note that dogs are not allowed.
