A training course led by Butterfly Conservation and BBOWT, focusing on hairstreak butterflies and their survey techniques, including UV.
About this Event

We are looking for a cohort of volunteer hairstreak surveyors who can carry out surveys for us this spring and summer as part of the Reconnecting Bernwood, Otmoor and the Ray (RBOR) project. We will be teaching you how to survey with UV, as well as how to carry out daytime surveys.

By becoming a volunteer hairstreak surveyor, you will directly contribute to nature’s recovery, as the data you collect will help us to monitor hairstreak distribution across the BOR area and inform our conservation efforts.

This course will include a blended approach of classroom and practical outdoor sessions, giving you the skills to confidently carry out hairstreak surveys.

All necessary equipment will be provided. Bring waterproof clothing in case of rain, and wear suitable footwear (e.g., walking boots or wellies) for the outdoor session,

as the terrain may be wet and uneven. Wear old clothing that can get muddy. Parking is available at the site. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided.

This course is part of the Reconnecting Bernwood Otmoor Ray project, made possible thanks to National Lottery Heritage Fund. You can find out more about the project on BBOWT’s website.
