Distraught at the death of her father, Helen (Claire Foy) loses herself in memories of their time birding and exploring the natural world together. In an attempt to navigate her grief, she becomes obsessed with the idea of training her own goshawk, thus acquiring the fearsome Mabel from a dealer. As she teaches Mabel to hunt and fly free, Helen discovers how deeply she is neglecting her own life and emotions. What begins as an act of endurance transforms into an intimate journey of resilience and healing. Claire Foy is understatedly excellent in this soaring film which explores the connection between people, nature, and the possibility of reconciling loss through love.
