About this Event
Gumzo is a word that means « conversation » in Swahili. The Gumzo event was founded by two brothers, Zikki & Baraka, and started in 2024 in London, Ontario. The goal of this event is to build community through conversation & performance.
How it works - Each Gumzo event is centered around a particular theme. Each performer must base their performance around this theme in some way. Audience members are then invited to reflect on this theme & how the performance impacted them.
Simply put, Gumzo “breaks the fourth wall” by blending performers and audience members — inviting both of them into deeper conversation around a topic that resonates with each of us, in a unique way.
This edition is a little different. For the first time, Gumzo will present local artist Ivan Nzitonda and host his album release called: Message to the Churches.
