GUILLOTINE SPRING is the new project from Maria O’Donnell and Mat Fowler, from acclaimed electric psych folk group Galley Beggar. With this new band they continue their journey as part of a four piece, exploring traditional songs as well as new, original material. Their live dates are acclaimed as being atmospheric and captivating encapsulating the sound of their album 'Eclosion', a tapestry of sonic exploration, seamlessly blending elements of traditional folk song with their own compositions and bathing all in a psychedelic glow. A symbol of rebirth and renewal, the album promises a journey that mirrors the changing seasons and the changes within ourselves. The unearthly, indefinable sonic thread that runs through their songs connects them as much with the likes of The Velvet Underground and modern-day Irish folk boundary-pushers Lankum as it does Pentangle or Trees. A heady mix indeed.
THE WOOLVERSTONES, an alternative folk duo formed in late 2019, are steadily carving out a name for themselves on the international folk circuit. Following appearances at the Cambridge Folk Festival, a UK headline tour, and international dates across much of Europe, The Woolverstones continue to captivate audiences with their cinematic songwriting and harmony-rich sound. The duo’s debut album, Grey Eyed Dandy is deep and soulful both lyrically and musically. With acoustic guitar accompanying atmospheric flute playing, it has a feel of the folk psychedelic sound of the early 1970s, the era of Nick Drake and John Martyn. It is an accomplished work; if you’re up for something a bit different, that draws on an eclectic range of influences, and you enjoy folk with a more disturbing edge to it, The Woolverstones are well worth a listen.
Tickets for this exciting show cost £16.00 each and are available online at www.stedithfolk.co.uk
