About this Event

Saturday,12/21 at 1:00-3:00PM

Join us in the winter solstice and at the turning of the seasons for an artist-led walk with resident artist Farah Marie Velten. A multi-sensory stroll at NCL and will be an invitation for participants to connect with the environment that the sanctuary of NCL offers and connect with each other. This activity will be a glimpse into some of the things Farah is working on during her residency at the Naval Cemetery Landscape. Farah will guide us to be present for the changing of seasons and a mark our time on the winter solstice with a collective experience.

BGI will provide small journals to use and take home but please feel free to bring your own journal and writing/art supplies if desired to note observations. Dress with warm layers as this is an outdoor only event.

About the Artist: Farah Marie Velten:Originally from Sausalito CA, Farah Marie Velten is a New York City based interdisciplinary artist who primarily works with visual arts practicing fine art photography that focuses on analogue and alternative printmaking processes, including cyanotype, anthotype, and more. She is a teaching artist with Josephine Herrick Project, a member of the teaching artist collective for The Nature School in Brooklyn and part of Field Meridians, an assistant teacher at International Center for Photography (ICP), and has a long history teaching art and workshops at many institutions. For her residency Farah will be exploring nature as the space within oneself and our relationship to the external space within the wider context and meanings of nature, both inside and outside of ourselves.Proposed project: cyanotypes or other visual pieces with plants particularly invasive species with a reception event showcasing these pieces and either a public performance using cataloged and archived field recordings and an interactive component where guests of all ages and capabilities could create small works together with her and with each other to highlight the community aspect of the environment and initiative. Will lead some immersive strolls.
