About this Event
Come ready to learn about the history of the Upper Newport Bay, the carbon cycle and carbon’s role in life on Earth, what a blue carbon ecosystem is and where they are found in the Bay, and how blue carbon and balanced ecosystems are crucial solutions to our warming climate.
This quarter-mile (0.25 mile) walk covers the trails around the Back Bay Science Center, lasting about an hour. Sometimes going over uneven, gravel terrain, the walk mostly stays on paved or planked paths.
Be sure to carve out time before or after your scheduled walk to check out the rest of our Open House — like our touch tanks and native plant nursery — run by one of our partners, the Newport Bay Conservancy.
The minimum recommended age is 12 years old. Registration and completed waivers are required. Inclement weather may cancel our guided walks as they are outdoors. Both our guided nature walks and the Open House are free and open to the public.
