In Jocelyn A. Beard’s play, Vladivostok Blues, the collapse of the Soviet Union becomes the ultimate backdrop for a kidnapping plot gone hilariously wrong. The story follows Sophia de la Cruz, a Mexican soap opera star who finds herself abruptly traded for car parts, and whisked away to a frozen, bureaucratic purgatory at the far edge of the world. As Sophia navigates the freezing temperatures and the realization that her celebrity status is useless in a city that barely has electricity, the play transforms her ordeal into a dark comedy about the bizarre intersections of global culture, proving that if you’re going to be held for ransom in a Siberian port, you might as well have a flair for the dramatic. And to add to the absurdity? Sophia's story is loosely based on a real-life Mexican soap opera star's visit to Russia. (We can't make this stuff up.) Guerl-rilla Theatre productions are put on their feet with one week of rehearsal, and scripts in hand. All roles are cast with female-identifying, performers. Angela Howard will direct.
Auditions: Saturday, January 31, 2026, 11 AM at Talking Horse Productions. Sides will be provided. Please fill out the audition form in advance, if possible. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe8gIUfFNuvSQRk-OHildcCDXmfQU3OGIsL22uEI3jpBHRHDw/viewform
