This technically easy but strenuous hike is about 3 hrs of class 2 and 3 rock scrambling. There's little to no exposure, we'll seldom get more than a few feet above ground level. To attend, you should be comfortable hiking three miles on rocky terrain, some of it steep. In some places you will need to use your hands to climb over easy rock obstacles. The pace will be slow and steady, short breaks as needed. We'll learn basic rock scrambling skills as we go.
Depending on group ability, we may visit Seal Head Rock or, when we get to the saddle we may turn right and climb a fun gully to a spectacular view of Red Rock Canyon.

Plan to arrive a few minutes early so we're all ready to start at 7 am. Meet at the picnic tables. See map.
You'll need a backpack so that your hands are free. You'll need at least a liter of water, in metal or plastic containers, no glass. A backpack with a water bladder is the most convenient. Bring a light snack that provides quick energy.
You'll need sunscreen, hat, sunglasses and shoes with good grip or 'sticky' on sandstone. Approach shoes are best, hiking shoes are okay. Sneakers are not recommended, they're usually too pliable for rock scrambling.
Helmets are welcome and encouraged. REI or Desert Rock Sports have a variety of climbing helmets you can try on in the store.
