GSPA is excited to announce our first educational program, a dynamic four-hour workshop designed to elevate your musical theater skill set. Curriculum will be tailored to meet participants at their skill level and will be facilitated by 6 experienced instructors. Adult performers of all levels will strengthen their dance/movement, singing, acting, and audition techniques—building confidence, versatility, and stage-ready presence.Golden State Performing Arts Musical Theater Lab

-Tuition cost $100, early bird enrollment $75 (before 3/14), partial/full scholarships available (W-2 required to determine eligibility)
How Musical Lab Will Work
-Students will participate in 4-45 minute break out classes that will cover multiple disciplines connected to Musical Theater including acting, singing, movement/dancing, and audition preparedness (including audition etiquette, practice and assessment of headshot and resume).
-After tuition is submitted via Ticket Leap students will be contacted via email to collect information needed to best assess and plan curriculum
-Students will pre-determine their level of experience in each discipline as well as goals which will be used to group them into classes based on similar skill levels.
-The Musical Theater Lab will conclude in a casual performance where students can perform for each other. It's a chance for students to apply their newly gained skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.
-Students should plan on bringing the following (if a student does not have any materials they will be provided with options)
........Comfortable clothing and shoes that allow for movement/dance
........A copy of their headshot and resume
Sheet music for a piece of music they'd like to work on in the correct key as well as an mp4 accompaniment track
........A prepared monologue including copy of the script
There will be a 45 minute lunch break. Students can leave campus or bring their own food.
Meet Our Instructors
Todd Aragon brings over 40 years of experience as a dancer, performer, teacher, director and choreographer. He has studied dance with many teachers and studios from the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, to Dallas. As a dancer he performed with the Dance/10, Standing Room Only, and West Coast Dance Theatre companies in industrial shows, State Fairs, Candlestick Park, the Concord Pavillion, and Six Flags Great America among other places. Todd has directed and/or choreographed over 40 productions in the Bay Area, Dallas, and locally including Grease, All Shook Up, Footloose, Anything Goes, 42nd Street, and Joseph/Dreamcoat among others. Most recently he choreographed A Gentleman’s Guide To Love & Murder and A Grand Night For Singing for Lincoln Theatre Company. He has taught workshops in Tap, Kids Jazz, Theatrical Dance, and Audition Technique. As a performer, he has performed in over 60 productions ranging from No, No, Nannette to Death of a Salesman. Todd is excited to be a founding Board Member for GSPA, and looks forward to seeing the company grow and offer even more learning opportunities for the local community.
Isaiah Bent is a graduate from the Program in Educational Theatre at New York University, where he earned his M.A and was honored with the program’s outstanding leadership award in 2016. He lived in New York City for 10 years working as a teaching artist for Classic Stage Company and teaching theater full-time in public schools in Harlem and Queens. Isaiah has taught acting courses to all ages and is passionate about the works of Shakespeare, Sondheim, and everything in between. As a performer, he has appeared in regional productions in California, Colorado, and Tennessee. Currently, Isaiah is an itinerant elementary school theater teacher for the Woodland Joint Unified School District, fulfilling his dream of being able to inspire a love of theater in students in his hometown.
Amanda Bistolfo After teaching high school choir for eight years, Amanda made the switch to a “normal” job in insurance and teaches voice lessons on weekends. Previous theatrical roles include Cassie in A Chorus Line with Rocklin Theatre Company, Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof with Lincoln Theatre Company, Marian Paroo in The Music Man, Sally Bowles in Cabaret, Angela in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Patience, Duke Orsino in Twelfth Night, and ensemble in Legally Blonde with Woodland Opera House. On the production side, Amanda has music directed at Woodland Opera House and Dixon Community Theater as well as high school productions of 25th…Spelling Bee and The Addams Family, conducted the pit orchestra of Les Misérables–School Version, assisted with high school musicals, and directed many, many choir concerts. Amanda holds a California Teaching Credential, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting, a Master’s degree in Education, a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and a minor in Theatre Arts.
Jacob Fennell is a Sacramento-based professional Pianist and Music Director. He serves as the Senior Financial Director of NewSongs Music School, where he furthers the musical education of children and adults in the greater Sacramento area. Jacob earned a B.A. in Fine & Performing Arts: Music and a B.A. in Arts Management at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Kat Folsom started dancing at the age of three and teaching as an apprentice at the age of 13. In 2002 she pivoted into Musical Theatre as a choreographer, director and actor. Some of her favorite acting roles have been Robyn in Godspell, Marcy in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Ulla in The Producers and was nominated for an Elly award for the part of Snoopy in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. She received her professional dramatic acting training at The Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts, receiving the ‘Jan Severson Scholarship’ for excellence and was cast in their professional regional theater’s productions of White Christmas and Midsommer Night's Dream. She was invited by the Conservatory for three summer seasons to teach Acting and Dance at their popular “Young People’s Project,” a summer camp for young, aspiring performers. When not on stage, Kat skateboards, has competed professionally and has her own model through Embassy Skateboards.
Jeff Teague is an award winning director and choreographer and has worked with organizations thought out California including Alameda Civic Light Opera, Contra Contra Costa Music Theater, Diablo Light Opera Company, Bracebridge Dinner in Yosemite, Bay Area Educational Theater Company, Inland Valley Repertory, Placer Pops Chorale, Sacramento Chorale Society, Lincoln Theatre Company and Woodland Opera House. He currently choreographs for the choirs at Davis Senior High School and teaches line dancing all over the Sacramento area. He was Executive/Artistic Director at ACLO and Associate Artistic Director at IVRT and is the current Artistic Director at Golden State Performing Arts. Jeff trained in dance for 4 years at Diane East School of Dance In Bellflower California with emphasis on ballet and has trained in modern dance and jazz. Specialized workshops include Fosse Style with Gregory Butler (associate choreographer for Chicago), Alvin Ailey/New York and Actor's Studio Los Angeles. He also received extensive training with the Young American Performing Arts Academy. Jeff studied voice for 10 years and is currently working with Matthew Liebowitz. As a performer he worked for 4 years at the Curtain Call Dinner Theater in Tustin, Ca, toured with the Young Americans and danced at Disneyland. He has toured and performed in regional theater including No, No, Nanette (LaMirada Civic Light Opera) starring Susan Egan, Babes (RK Productions) starring Stephanie J. Block, Pajama Game (California Music Theater) starring Pat Harrington, Mary Jo Catlett, and Patti Colombo and The Man Who Came To Dinner (Inland Valley Repertory) starring Nedra Volz. Other favorite roles include The Snake, Balleader and Narrator in The Apple Tree, Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz and Thomas Andrews in Titanic. Jeff teaches performing arts related classes and workshops and is currently the outreach instructor at Woodland House where he has also taught dance and speciality workshops. Jeff teaches online dance and fitness classes through this own company has taught at the Westlake School of Performing Arts in Palo Alto, Lamorinda Theater Arts Academy in Lafayette, McLaughlin Studios in Loomis and with the City of Elk Grove. Jeff is also the Project Coordinator for Uplift People of Elk Grove, a non profit that helps individuals and families break the cycle of poverty. www.jtperformingarts.squarespace.com
