About this Event

This workshop will equip you with the basic skills, knowledge and confidence start your own beautiful flower patch, whether on your windowsill, or in a yard or the garden at home.

It will include a practical introduction to:

  • composting and healthy soil (including our Closed-Loop Composting programme)
  • no-dig gardening
  • seed-sowing
  • what to grow
  • identifying good and bad weeds
  • identifying pests and diseases
  • chemical-free growing techniques
  • pricking out seedlings
  • potting on plants
  • supporting biodiversity

Clem, our florist, will also demonstrate cutting and conditioning techniques that will enhance flower growth and vase life, and guide you through the process of making a rustic flower posy, which you’ll wrap in biodegradable gift paper to take home.

You will leave with a starter pack of freshly-sown seeds trays, packs of seedling and multiple potted plants to kick-start your own flower garden.

A delicious soup and bread will be provided for lunch, as well as plenty of tea, coffee & cake.

When you book on to a workshop with Heart of BS13, you are helping fund our charity's work to tackle inequality and create green education and training opportunities in our South Bristol community.
