This activity is part of Reading Climate Festival’s Lunch in the Park in Forbury Gardens – a peaceful space to gather in person halfway through Reading Climate Festival, eat climate-friendly food, enjoy some music, pick up seeds and tips on how to grow your own, and reimagine Reading with local creatives and solarpunks.

Grow, Create, Connect: Food Growing & Storytelling

Join us for a creative celebration of food growing, community, and climate action! This interactive event explores how small-scale, community-led, climate-friendly food growing makes a big difference to ourselves, our communities, and our planet. Whether you have a garden, balcony, or windowsill - you can grow where you are!

What to expect:

🌱 Growing demonstrations – Simple, climate-friendly techniques for growing your own food, with tips for beginners and seasoned growers alike

🌳 Storytelling tree – Share your food-growing stories, memories, and experiences. Your story matters—whether it's about a childhood garden, a failed tomato experiment, or your first successful harvest! 🌿 Growing kits & seed swap – Pre-made kits to get you started, plus successful seedlings to inspire you - plus the RFGN seed swap!

💚 Tips & advice – Take-away guidance whether you're ready to start growing or still exploring the idea

We’re open to everyone. This is a space to learn, create, and connect. Whether you're already growing food or just starting to think about it, your voice and energy are welcome.
