About this Event

This structured group therapy program is designed to provide women with a new outlook on difficult family circumstances and a renewed sense of self-worth. Participants can expect to feel empowered to take steps towards building a lifestyle centered on inner peace and self-compassion, even in the face of family adversity. This group offers a safe space to gain mutual support from other women who are facing similar challenges. To foster an environment for healing from the emotional pain that comes with toxic family relationships, psychoeducational lessons grounded in compassion-focused therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy are incorporated into each session.

Meeting Frequency: Weekly

​Session Length: 2hrs

Program Duration: Six Weeks


Program Fee: $390.00 (6 sessions) (flexible payment plans available upon request)

Many extended health benefit plans cover the cost of psychotherapy services and/or mental health services provided by a registered social worker. Contact your insurance provider for information about your coverage options.


Group Format: Closed Group

In a closed group, membership is restricted to participants who meet membership criteria. The group begins and ends with the same participants. New members are not permitted to join after the start of the group program. Closed group format supports an environment of increased privacy and safety for members of the group. Structured sessions with an established group of participants offers each member a sense of comfort and predictability which allows for a strong sense of connection among group members. ​

Group Membership Criteria

This program is best suited for women age 25 + who have faced mistreatment or abuse by a relative and are seeking support to overcome lasting emotional effects. This includes, but is not limited to, personal experiences of emotional abuse, financial abuse, neglect, gossip, manipulation, bullying, physical violence, gaslighting, controlling behaviours or other forms of harassment, committed by a family member.​​
