Join our tutor, Jo, for some themed, therapeutic hand-sewing. The birds you make will contribute to our larger project, Flight Path.
Group Sewing project: Felt Birds
Mon 27th January, 6.30-8.30pm at YMCA Go Golspie, Golspie.
In this fun and relaxed workshop, you will join other sewing enthusiasts to contribute to a world map tapestry of migratory birds which will be displayed in the Lairg Learning Centre as a legacy piece for our Flight Path project.
Under Jo's direction, you'll get to experiment with vibrant felt fabrics and meet fellow crafting enthusiasts, whilst making some beautiful birds to go onto our Map.
In the background, we are part-way through running a couple of 4-hour long workshops where participants have been piecing together a world map made from fabrics; when finished, your birds will then be placed onto the map, with golden threads to mark their migratory paths to finish.
So grab your fabric scissors and let’s get sewing!
Items you will need:
-Needles for hand-stitching
-Scissors & sewing kit The idea of the World Map is to show birds and their migratory paths; however, the map will also show the colours of the warmer and wetter parts of the world in order to highlight areas where Climate Change is affecting our feathered friends and their habits.
ABOUT FLIGHT PATH:
Through a combination of creative writing workshops, lectures, immersive walks and various mediums of art, we hope to raise awareness and a comprehensive understanding of how climate change is altering the behaviour and distribution of bird species worldwide.
ABOUT THE FUNDER
Lairg and District Learning Centre, along with 8 other centres throughout Scotland, are delighted to have been awarded a grant from the Scottish Government's £272k Climate Engagement Fund (CEF).
The fund has been set up to increase Climate Change awareness and action in local communities through various activities such as community workshops, podcasts and green festivals, which will be supported from the latest round of Scottish Government funding.
