A jam-packed 1 day workshop to build confidence and skill in group facilitation.About this Event
This interactive and energising one-day training will provide you with:
- A 'pocket facilitation' method, that you can keep with you wherever you go. You will learn to structure a group, define a group’s purpose and use a set of skills to facilitate effectively.
- Gain transferrable skills that you can use in therapeutic groups, peer support groups, reflective practice / supervision groups, and even in meetings!
- Learning about complex group dynamics and ways to navigate privilege and power when working in mental health settings.
- Guidance on how to navigate tricky moments - conflict in groups, working with trauma, working with risk and different participation styles in a group setting.
- A unique experience of being a group participant and seeing 'behind the curtain' of group facilitation in action – the trainers will share with you in real time what they are doing and why.
- Access to multidisciplinary trainers in Occupational Therapy and Social Work, who specialise in group facilitation in mental health settings (both clinical and community), and use their disciplinary frameworks, evidence base and experience to inform practice.
- This workshop is ideal for people working in dedicated primary and tertiary mental health settings or in broader community-based roles supporting individuals experiencing mental ill-health i.e AOD, child and family services, forensics, peer support etc.
Catering is included, please specify dietary requirements.
We will also ensure time is available to network and meet peers working in similar settings.
There are a small number if discounted places for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander attendees, students, or those working in lived experience roles. Please reach out directly if financial constraints are a barrier.

Who are we?
Pocket Facilitation offers training, consultancy and reflective group spaces for professionals working in the mental health and drug and alcohol sectors. We are Judy Riley (she / her) and Georgia Einfeld (she / her), a Social Worker and an Occupational Therapist who specialise in group work, education and reflective practice. Additionally, we have had extensive training and experience in group facilitation, risk management, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, trauma, sexology, working with lived experience and neurodiversity.
With collectively over 20 years of experience in both clinical and community settings, we pride ourselves in the creation of useful, evidence based and inclusive groups, and foster other professionals to build confidence to do the same. We believe in the power of combining clinical expertise with the human element of facilitation (warmth, self-awareness and an ability to ‘read the room’), and believe that people from all backgrounds and stages of recovery have something important and valuable to contribute.
We live and work on the traditional land of Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung peoples and are GLBTQIA+ informed.
