About this Event
This event is part of a series of Grief Circles happening this winter on the first and third Sunday of each month. Come to one or all, as you feel called. Grounded in The Work That Reconnects, these grief circles provide a space to gather in community, honor our grief (both personal and collective), make sense of the moment we’re in, and dream into our role in building a more just and liberatory world.
Our gathering on January 4th will feature a special guest, the very talented Marcus Tenaglia, leading some Qigong practices that are particularly supportive in processing and moving through grief.
Qigong is the art and practice of affecting the movement and quality of energy. This ancient Chinese healing art combines meditation, controlled breathing, and movement exercises to cultivate and balance the qi (or "life energy") for improved physical and mental well being.
Emotions are an integral part of our energetic experience, and our emotional life can greatly affect the quality and movement of qi. In this workshop, we will explore some specific Qigong practices to help move qi that may have become stagnant due to persistent grief. We will learn Qigong practices that are clearing, regulating, and grounding, which are greatly beneficial to our overall health and also help prevent grief (and other emotions) from getting stuck.
All forms of grief are welcome - the loss of loved ones or relationships, major changes and life transitions, grappling with genocide, the unraveling of democratic "norms," ecological chaos, etc. This in-person gathering will provide a sacred space to be present with the feelings in our bodies, be witnessed, and connect with community.
Space is limited - registration in advance is required.
No prior experience necessary.
Sliding scale monetary contributions will cover the costs of the space, supplies, and some of the facilitators' time. 20% of all funds raised will be donated to Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition. No one turned away for lack of funds.
