Grieving can be a lonely, confusing, and overwhelming experience. Being with others who are also grieving can reassure you that what you are feeling is perfectly normal, even though we all grieve in different ways. This day-camp is a place for children 5-10 years old who have experienced a profound loss to connect with other young people experiencing grief, and with adults who understand grief.
Through music, stories, activities, and a memory bear project we aim to provide these amazing children with a fun and comfortable place to talk about their emotions and feel understood, as well as learn some tools to help manage the pain of loss while inspiring joy, a sense of belonging, and hope that comes from our faith. We will also have the support of Margo McKay and her certified therapy dog.
This is not intended to be therapy or an all-in-one solution; our goal is to serve as an energizing stepping stone for those on the grief journey and to support them along the way.
All attendees are invited to bring 1/2 yard of cloth, or an item of clothing - preferably cloth that carries meaning for the child of the loved one who has died. Extra cloth will be available for those who need it. This cloth will be used to create a memory bear for the child to bring home at the end of the third day together.
We are intentionally keeping the group limited to 10-15 in order to give each participant the full attention they need. Please register early.
