Grief Café offers support for parents and carers of bereaved children and young people in Newark
Grief can be a lonely and isolating journey, but no one has to face it alone. The Children’s Bereavement Centre is launching a new Grief Café for parents and carers of bereaved children and young people, providing a safe and welcoming space to talk, listen, and be heard.
Beginning Wednesday 12th November, the Grief Café will take place every second Wednesday of the month from 2.30pm to 4.00pm at Corner Farm Kitchen Café, 17 North Gate, Newark (NG24 1EX).
The initiative is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and kindly sponsored and hosted by Corner Farm Kitchen, who will be closing to the public during the sessions to ensure a private and comfortable environment for attendees.
The sessions are free and open to everyone — there’s no need to have accessed support from the Centre and no pressure to share. Attendees are invited to come along for gentle conversation, a warm drink, and connection with others who understand what it’s like to support a bereaved child.
Each session will be supported by compassionate staff and volunteers from the Children’s Bereavement Centre, who are experienced in providing emotional support to families navigating grief and loss.
“We know that when a child experiences bereavement, parents and carers can often feel they have to stay strong and cope alone,” said Paula Drummond, Bereavement Service Manager and Play & Filial Therapist (BAPT registered) at the Children’s Bereavement Centre. “The Grief Café is a space where adults can take a breath, talk openly, and feel supported by a community who truly understands.”
Light refreshments will be provided, and everyone is welcome to drop in at any time during the session.
