About this Event
Welcome to 'GRIDIFIED: Chess and Go' Exhibition Opening Workshop!
This exhibition invites us to think about the sustainability of our lives through the concept of the 'grid.' Drawing inspiration from the grids of chess and Go boards, the artist explores the meaning of the planes and lines formed by the grid and relates them to our lives. While the grid’s planes are distinct and limited areas, the grid’s lines are connecting pathways, creating open, expansive territories. Depending on whether we focus on the planes or the lines within the same grid, the direction of our lives could change. From a sustainability perspective, the artist suggests that we should aim for a life that is not confined to limited planes, but one that opens up possibilities to move in all directions along the lines. The 'Go Chair' series, inspired by the Go board, is a representation of this idea, expressed as furniture that can be placed in everyday spaces.
This workshop is an opportunity to create and share the meaning or concept of the grid as each participant interprets it, either in 2D or 3D. These grids could be physical objects we encounter in daily life or conceptual ones. Through this workshop, we hope to reflect on the various conceptual meanings of the grid—things that are so familiar in our everyday lives but perhaps haven't been deeply considered that much. We look forward to exploring these ideas together.
