Gremlins (4:30 PM) starts innocently enough: young Billy (Zach Galligan) receives an adorable Mogwai named Gizmo as a Christmas present. Three rules: don't expose him to bright light, don't get him wet, and never feed him after midnight. Naturally, all three rules get broken, transforming cute Gizmo into an army of malicious gremlins who terrorize the small town of Kingston Falls on Christmas Eve. Dante balances genuine menace with pitch-black comedy as the creatures wreak havoc—microwaving victims, hanging decorations, and caroling with twisted glee. This is Spielberg-produced '80s entertainment with a nasty anarchic streak.
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (7:00 PM) throws out the rulebook entirely. Set in a futuristic Manhattan skyscraper, Dante turns the sequel into a Looney Tunes-style free-for-all where the gremlins run riot through a corporate tower, the film breaks itself (complete with Hulk Hogan cameo), and Christopher Lee battles the creatures as a mad scientist. This is meta-comedy before meta was everywhere—absurdist, self-referential, and utterly bonkers.
