About this Event

Join us to craft under the cherry trees with the Paper Garden Boutique! We will each make a set of 6 greeting cards, which we'll adorn with paper cherry blossoms and other Japanese-inspired art paper. The finished cards would make a great gift for Mother's Day, or for a spring birthday card.

This class will be held outdoors among the cherry trees at the Hanami line at Robert T Matsui Waterfront Park.

Register now! The week before this event, we will send a logistics and directions email with detailed information about how to get to the site. You will receive this email ONLY if you are signed-up for this planting.

In this chance of inclement weather resulting in postponement, this event will be rescheduled to May 31. Registered attendees will receive communication if needed.

Who should attend?

Anyone! This event is open to the general public, you do not need any prior experience to join us, and on-site training will be provided. Families with children are welcome. Anyone participating in card crafting must be a paid registrant.

About this project

Throughout the world, people gather each spring under blossoming cherry trees to celebrate the beautiful transience of nature and life. In Japan, this activity is called hanami and draws thousands of families to picnic, play and relax in its parks. Sacramento's Hanami Line is designed for this wonderful tradition along with many year-round uses ranging from meditation and yoga to lively food, art and music festivals.

Located on the Sacramento riverfront at Robert T. Matsui Park, the Hanami Line cherry blossom park provides a welcoming space to gather, relax and play while celebrating the rich cultural contributions Japanese Americans have made to our region.

Support for this event is provided by Paper Garden Boutique.

If you have questions about this initiative or would like to get more deeply involved, please contact Pamela Sanchez, Community Education Manager, at [email protected] or (916) 974-4311.
