About this Event
The clean economy is robust and growing in Colorado. At the end of 2022, there were over 63,780 full time, clean energy jobs in the state. That was a 4.6% growth over the previous year, while the general economy grew 2.4%. In Colorado, there are double the number of clean energy jobs than fossil fuel. With the roll-out of the federal IRA and IIJA policies, the clean economy will continue to grow and offer good quality job opportunities across the state.
Yet, many people don’t know the variety of jobs in the clean energy industry, how much education and training are needed for these jobs and where to look for them. At the same time, the Colorado clean economy lacks diversity both in workers and business owners. There have been some DEIA gains, in 2022 over half of energy sector hires were women, there is still a long way to go. This Cleantech Jobs Expo will contribute to this via presenting and explaining the opportunities to a wide audience, including highschool students and their parents, college students, and workers who would like to upskill or refocus their careers. Through a targeted exposition of representative speakers, and a gathering of these Cleantech businesses showcasing the work and careers, we will showcase the belonging and lucrative career opportunities for underserved communities of Denver.
We will share the Expo invitation with our broad network of community organizations with diverse members, high schools, and universities, with the goal of attracting 150+ guests from all walks of life and varying experiences and education. We will host this Expo at a facility in Denver that can be conveniently reached by transit and has ample free parking. The Expo is planned for a half day on a Saturday in June (to be confirmed), to be more conducive for families and students to attend. The Expo will feature panels covering career pathways for various jobs, highlighting day-in-the-life for these jobs, what the training requirements are, earning potential, etc, as well as resources for entrepreneurs looking to start their own business and make an impact in their community.
