Join us for the sixth ride of the 2024 Great Western Training Program (GWTP)! This week, we continue our focus on "Little Gear" intervals, paired with pace-lining exercises to further develop your endurance and group riding skills. As the program progresses, these sessions become more challenging, pushing you to refine your skills and build the stamina needed for long-distance events. Whether you are a returning participant or joining us for the first time, this ride is an excellent opportunity to enhance your cycling performance within a team-oriented environment.Details:
– Distance: 62 miles
– Elevation Gain: 5,200 feet
– Meeting Point: Starbucks Bonita, corner of Bonita Road and Central Avenue
– Start Time: 8:00 AM PST
– Ride Type: Little Gear intervals and pace-lining—focused on building aerobic capacity and improving efficiency in a group setting. This ride will prepare you for the demanding efforts of competitive cycling.
The 2024 GWTP, a program with over 30 years of history, continues to bring cyclists together from San Diego, Mexico, and beyond. Led by USA Cycling Level 1 certified coach, Gilberto Cortez, the GWTP provides structured, science-based training that prepares participants for the demands of the upcoming race season.
What to Expect in Week 6:
– "Little Gear" intervals to build stamina and improve aerobic endurance.
– Continued pace-lining drills to enhance group coordination and efficiency.
– A supportive and engaging environment with guidance from Coach Gilberto and Assistant Coach Jacobo Melcer.
Important Information:
– Please bring enough water, nutrition, and any gear you might need for a 4-hour ride.
– Neutral support will be available for basic mechanical assistance if needed.
– Weather conditions may affect the event. Notifications will be posted on the Facebook page the day before the ride if any changes occur.
