Join us for the fifth ride of the 2024 Great Western Training Program (GWTP)! This week, we’ll be switching things up with "Little Gear" intervals for all climbing sections and introducing pace-lining techniques. The focus of this session is to enhance your endurance and refine your ability to ride efficiently in a group setting. Whether you’ve been part of the GWTP from the start or are just jumping in, this ride is an ideal opportunity to build endurance and sharpen your skills within a supportive and structured environment.Details:
– Distance: 62 miles
– Elevation Gain: 5,200 feet
– Meeting Point: Starbucks Bonita, corner of Bonita Road and Central Avenue
– Start Time: 8:00 AM PST
– Ride Type: Little Gear intervals and pace-lining—focused on building endurance and improving group riding skills. This week’s ride is designed to prepare you for the longer efforts and teamwork required in competitive scenarios.
The 2024 GWTP continues its over 30-year tradition of uniting cyclists from San Diego, Mexico, and beyond. Led by USA Cycling Level 1 certified coach, Gilberto Cortez, the program utilizes science-backed training methods to ensure participants are ready for the upcoming race season, both physically and mentally.
What to Expect in Week 5:
– "Little Gear" intervals to develop stamina and build aerobic endurance.
– Introduction to pace-lining techniques, enhancing your group riding skills and efficiency.
– A collaborative environment with guidance from Coach Gilberto and Assistant Coach Jacobo Melcer to ensure you make the most of the session.
Important Information:
– Please bring enough water, nutrition, and any gear you might need for a 4-hour ride.
– Neutral support will be available for basic mechanical assistance if needed.
– Weather conditions may affect the event. Notifications will be posted on the Facebook page the day before the ride if any changes occur.
