Join us for the fourth ride of the 2024 Great Western Training Program (GWTP)! This week, we’ll continue to focus on "Big Gear" intervals for all climbing sections and Individual Leg Training Sessions (ILTS). As we build upon the gains from previous sessions, the intensity increases, challenging you to push your strength and endurance to the next level. Whether you’ve been with us since Week 1 or are joining for the first time, this ride offers an excellent opportunity to enhance your cycling performance and connect with a supportive community of cyclists.Details:
– Distance: 62 miles
– Elevation Gain: 5,200 feet
– Meeting Point: Starbucks Bonita, corner of Bonita Road and Central Avenue
– Start Time: 8:00 AM PST
– Ride Type: Big Gear intervals and ILTS—focused on maximizing power output and refining pedaling efficiency. This week’s ride will test your strength and technique as the intensity ramps up.
The 2024 GWTP, with its 30-year legacy, continues to unite cyclists from San Diego, Mexico, and beyond. This year’s program is led by USA Cycling Level 1 certified coach, Gilberto Cortez, who brings progressive and science-based training methods to ensure all participants are well-prepared for the competitive season ahead.
What to Expect in Week 4:
– Advanced "Big Gear" intervals to build muscular power and stamina.
– Individual Leg Training Sessions (ILTS) designed to optimize your pedaling technique.
– A challenging but supportive environment with guidance from Coach Gilberto and Assistant Coach Jacobo Melcer.
Important Information:
– Please bring enough water, nutrition, and any gear you might need for a 4-hour ride.
– Neutral support will be available for basic mechanical assistance if needed.
– Weather conditions may affect the event. Notifications will be posted on the Facebook page the day before the ride if any changes occur.
