Lecture Abstract:
Realists and non-realists alike have been making the case that a great power war between China and the United States is either coming soon or is inevitable. This talk will discuss the possibility of a major war between the China and the United States from two different theoretical perspectives: power transition theory and peaceful change.
Speaker Bio:
Brian C. Schmidt is Professor in the Department of Political Science at Carleton University. He previously taught at SUNY New Paltz and University of Wales, Aberystwyth. He is the author of several books and numerous articles on the disciplinary history of IR. He teaches courses on IR theory, the causes of war, and American foreign policy.
