Great Falls Forum with Yun Garrison and Fowsia Musse

The 2025-2026 season of the Great Falls Forum continues Thursday, March 26th, featuring Yun Garrison and Fowsia Musse with a talk entitled “Be Healed (Ka Bogso): Posttraumatic Healing and Growth for Somali Refugee Women.” This free, public program will take place from 12 noon to 1 PM in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.
Dr. Yun Garrison is Associate Professor of Psychology at Bates College, where she teaches courses in counseling psychology, liberation psychology, and community-engaged psychology. The recipient of a 2025 American Psychological Foundation award, Garrison's current research bridges psychological science and community resilience in the aftermath of community trauma. Dr. Garrison has collaborated for the past five years with Somali community leader Fowsia Musse, who is the executive director and founder of Maine Community Integration (MCI) in Lewiston. Born in Somalia, Fowsia arrived in the U.S. in 1995. She has over seventeen years of experience as a cultural broker, medical interpreter, and community health advocate. Recognized with the 2017 Trailblazer Award from Empower Immigrant Women, YWCA’s Women of Achievement Award, and the 2024 Courage Is Contagious Award, her leadership at MCI empowers individuals from diverse backgrounds with vital resources and support.
Admission is free to all Forum events and reservations are only required if attending via Zoom. The Zoom link will be posted to the library website and Facebook prior to the event. This program is a bring-your-own, brown-bag lunch event. Coffee and bottled water will be available on site at the library.
