Addressing topics selected by the Foreign Policy Association, the Great Decisions Lecture Series is America's largest discussion program on foreign affairs. The series of six Great Decisions Lectures at the Mauthe Center continues a longstanding collaboration between the University of Wisconsin Green Bay and St. Norbert College, with faculty from both institutions contributing to the selection of speakers and the discussions themselves.
The topic for this week, the last in our series, is "U.S. Tariffs and the Future of the World Economy." The description from the Foreign Policy Association states, "President Trump’s aggressive trade and tariff policies have shaken global economic norms. What’s the rationale behind this radical shift in economic policy, and what are the implications for multilateral trade and geopolitics?"
Our speaker will be Dr. Mark Copelovitch, Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. Professor Copelovitch studies international political economy and international organizations, with a focus on the politics of international trade, international finance, the International Monetary Fund, and European integration. He is the author of The International Monetary Fund in the Global Economy: Banks, Bonds, and Bailouts (Cambridge University Press, 2010), as well as articles in Comparative Political Studies, the Journal of Politics, International Organization, International Studies Quarterly, and the Review of International Organizations. Professor Copelovitch is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard University, where he received his Ph.D. in Government in 2005. He is also an affiliate of the Center for European Studies, the Center for German and European Studies, and the Jean Monnet European Union Center of Excellence at UW – Madison..
This hybrid event is free and open to the public. We encourage you to attend in person if you are able, as the discussion promises to be fruitful! If you prefer to attend virtually, register for the Zoom webinar here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_iW9BoefTTvW2ydt1ubYUew
