Who remembers their grannies button box? They all had one right?
A timeless collection of buttons and other random treasures that inevitably made their way in there like elastic, lace, safety pins and toggles, usually kept in an old sweet tin or a wicker basket with a lid.
I spent countless hours sorting, counting and choosing my favourites.
The magical glass ones that sparkled in the light, the shell ones with their iridescent colours , the ones shaped like flowers.
I would plunge my hands into the box and scoop up handfuls, sifting the buttons through my fingers and letting them fall back into the trove with a satisfying 'clickety clack'.
I inherited my grannies button box!!
My passion for collecting beautiful buttons has always far outpaced my enthusiasm to ever learn how to knit or sew garments that would require them.....so my vast collection just sits in boxes until my imagination gives them a reason to see daylight.
In this workshop I invite you to take a trip down memory lane , to those days of sifting through your grannies button box .
These mini button bouquets in a salt shaker vase are a craft I remember making with my granny as a child.
