Los Descendientes de Tucson is happy to announce that on April 25, 2026, from 10am-1pm, we will hold the Grand Reopening of the Historic Sosa-Carrillo House! We have updated exhibits, including "Corazón Rebelde: Reflections on Chicanidad" by local artist Ruben Urrea Moreno.
After 2.5 years and over $2.2 million invested into a full restoration of the 147 year-old adobe house, we are again opening our doors to continue cultural events, programs, and a share community space to come together and convivir!
The collaboration between Los Descendientes and Rio Nuevo made many upgrades possible, including better accessibility, new bathrooms, and a new catering kitchen!
Thanks to the Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area for supporting the front yard being reinterpreted to symbolize the neighborhood that existed prior to urban renewal and bringing in native vegetation.
11am-noon we will hold remarks from Mayor Regina Romero, Representative Betty Villegas, Rio Nuevo Chair Fletcher Mccusker, Borderlands Theater's Marc Pinate, Los Des President Maritza Valenzuela, Los Des ED Rikki Riojas, and Los Des member Evelyn Jacobs.
