Following late-night open-mic at the 2022 Morecambe Poetry Festival, where he performed a few old song lyrics as spoken word pieces, Trystan started writing poetry more seriously. At the second Morecambe poetry festival he was lucky enough to get a slot as part of Sarah L Dixon’s Quiet Compere group and since then he has had headline slots at several local events and even slammed at the Huddersfield Literature Festival and Manchester’s One Mic Stand.
Trystan won the 2024 Plough Poetry Prize judged by Roger McGough with the poem Don’t tell Dad and the local postcode prize at the 2024 Morecambe Poetry Festival judged by Donna Ashworth with the poem Learning to Glide.
He writes unpretentious, accessible verse that moves people deeply and yet avoids the cloying or the trite, the false sentiment or the easy resolution.
PAYF and 10 x 4 minute open mic spots first come first served.
