About this Event
Event Overview:
Experience an electric fusion of jazz, blues-rock, and hip hop with Grammy-winning trumpeter Maurice “MoBetta” Brown. This night brings MoBetta’s soulful, high-energy sound to Houston for a performance that blends bebop, funk, and modern groove.
About the Artist:
Maurice “MoBetta” Brown orbits through three musical worlds with ease: contemporary jazz, blues-rock, and cutting-edge hip hop. A master trumpeter, composer, arranger, and producer, MoBetta’s horn carries a signature tone that merges classic bebop with a fresh, urban pulse.
A Chicago native, he won the national Miles Davis Trumpet Competition as a teen before moving to Louisiana to study under the legendary Alvin Batiste. His debut album Hip to Bop — recorded in New Orleans — signaled a new voice in jazz. After Hurricane Katrina, MoBetta relocated to New York, where his talent quickly put him on stages and in studios with Aretha Franklin, Wyclef Jean, De La Soul, Macy Gray, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Lettuce, and The Roots.
