Replacing the Mid West Grinder in 2025 we have a new course designed by Pete Johnson, out and back to Elizabeth Quay, 635 k / 4360 vm of varying surfaces on quiet country roads and trails with many towns on route for re supply or accommodation .Course summary by Pete :
Welcome to the Grainy Cow, a ride through the dairy and grain farmlands with a smattering of different forests. From wide, sweeping gravel roads through to skinny farmland limestone roads, this relatively short adventure encompasses some of the best the region has to offer including: Unsealed farmland tracks, a section of the 10th Light Horse bridal trail, Arklow Forrest near Collie, Collie Darkan rail trail in full, eastern sections of the Dryandra Woodland, the Lol Gray State Forest East to West through Wandoo National Park, and a favourite of many locals the Mundaring State Forest Ride.
Make it a time trial to see what you are capable of, or slow down and enjoy the scenery on a multi- day adventure with the aim of finishing, the choice is yours. There is one short sandy section of 1.2km that may not be rideable on the day depending on road conditions, your tyre choice and rainfall in the leadup. If so, enjoy the short walk. Busy highways, technical single track and poorly maintained firebreaks have been avoided where possible, to allow 45mm wide gravel tyres to shine. Distances between towns are not too significant and the overall length is a challenge but achievable.
